EU: Deadly incident in Karabakh shows urgency of peace talks

The deadly incident in which three Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) police officers were killed by Azerbaijani military underscores the urgency of pushing forward with peace negotiations, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has said.

“Back in Baku. Look forward to substantive meetings with [Azerbaijani] leadership to advance peace process after meetings in Munich. The deadly incident today underscores the urgency of pushing forward with negotiations to achieve stability & a fair peace,” Klaar tweeted.

Three Karabakh police officers were killed and another wounded in an Azerbaijani armed attack on Sunday, March 5. They were ambushed by an Azerbaijani “sabotage squad” as they rode in a car outside Stepanakert.

Later in the day, the Armenia Foreign Ministry condemned Azerbaijan’s deadly shootings in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) as an act of “terrorism” which it said was “preplanned and ordered by Azerbaijan’s supreme leadership.”
