Russia expects that Armenia’s possible accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court will be settled in an “allied” manner, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday, March 30.

"This topic is the subject of discussion in high-level contacts both in Moscow and in Yerevan. I do not consider it necessary to disclose the details of these contacts. Of course, we assume that this issue will be resolved in an allied and acceptable manner," she said, according to Tass.

On March 24, the Constitutional Court of Armenia published a decision according to which the obligations of the republic, set out in the Rome Statute of the ICC, are in line with the country's laws. A source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told TASS on Tuesday that the Russian side had warned the Armenian colleagues about the "extremely negative" consequences for relations with the Russian Federation of a possible accession to the Rome Statute. The Foreign Ministry also added that Moscow considers unacceptable Yerevan's plans to join the Rome Statute of the ICC against the backdrop of warrants against President Vladimir Putin.
