Armenia: Former top military official predicts clashes “in coming weeks”

Former Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Colonel General Movses Hakobyan believes that in the coming weeks, military clashes will “definitely” happen in the most dangerous parts of the country – areas where the enemy has already advanced.

“Since September of last year, the Azerbaijani side has been openly talking through its president that it has created a platform in the southern part, capturing a number of important heights of military importance and has done this for the purpose of launching other military operations,” Hakobyan told PastInfo on Friday, April 7.

According to him, the towns of Jermuk, Vardenis, Sisian – all near the eastern border of Armenia – are at risk.

The latest round of fighting between the two countries began in the wee hours of September 13, 2022 when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. More than 200 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said several days after the attack.
