Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan believes there is no “flow of migration” of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia.

“I must admit with satisfaction that there is no flow of migration from the Republic of Armenia of our brothers and sisters forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh,” Pashinyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, November 23, Armenpress reports.

“In other words, there are no migration phenomena, because in the first days a rather alarming number of people were leaving, but as we assumed, in most cases people went abroad at the invitation of their relatives and returned. And we see that the situation has stabilized.”

The Prime Minister believes that at some point the policy of the Armenian government towards persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh will become the same as towards citizens of Armenia.

“The idea is that well-being is created through work,” Pashinyan concluded.

On September 19, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh, which left hundreds of Armenians killed and thousands of others displaced. On September 20, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh agreed to a ceasefire on Azerbaijan’s terms, including the dissolution of the Defense Army. On September 28, President of the Republic of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree, according to which the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) will cease to exist by January 1, 2024. Over 100,000 displaced residents have already fled Nagorno-Karabakh and reached Armenia.
