NATO military trainings in Georgia is an attempt to resume Cold War
NATO military trainings in Georgia is an attempt to resume Cold War, RF State Duma Speaker Boris Grizlov stated. Steps undertaken by NATO are beyond reasonable limits, virtually, an attempt to resume Cold War, the Speaker said. According to him, Russia will not discontinue its dialogue with NATO. "In particular, State Duma delegation will participate in International Assembly NATO 60th anniversary National Assembly framework," the Speaker reported.
In his turn, RF Federation Council Chairman Sergey Mironov stated that NATO threatens the security of Caucasus. According to him, the training is being used by Tbilisi to increase its military presence at South Ossetian border. "NATO officials don't think it a direct violation of armistice agreement between Russia and Georgia, concluded through the intermediary of EU," Russian media cited Mironov as saying.
Official opening ceremony for NATO military trainings will launch on May 11, though maneuvers have already started. NATO military trainings will be conducted within "Partnership in the name of peace" Program framework. This year, Switzerland, Armenia, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Moldavia, Latvia and Estonia will not be included in the list of participants.
