Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan addressed the trials of former high-ranking officials of Nagorno Karabakh organized in Baku, noting that there is nothing to respond to.
"What is there to respond to? We are observing, we see what’s happening. But there’s nothing to respond to. It’s obvious what is taking place. It’s unfortunate, and we can only hope the trials create opportunities for discussions on how to bring these people back and secure their release," Simonyan stated, as reported by Armenpress.
A journalist also asked about claims by representatives of Nagorno Karabakh and the opposition that the Armenian side did not exert sufficient efforts. In response, Simonyan said he does not follow the statements of former officials from Nagorno-Karabakh and believes they should refrain from interfering in the process.
"I do not follow the statements or remarks of former officials of Nagorno Karabakh, and I think it would be better if they remained silent and refrained from interfering. We’ve already seen the consequences of their involvement. I believe it’s best for them to stay silent," he said.
The Azerbaijani authorities have unlawfully detained and filed fabricated charges against former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, including presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, as well as former National Assembly Speaker Davit Ishkhanyan, former Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, former Defense Minister Levon Mnatsakanyan, former Deputy Defense Minister Davit Manukyan, and former State Minister Ruben Vardanyan. Ruben Vardanyan's case has been separated from the others in the fabricated criminal proceedings, with his next trial scheduled for January 27, while the others’ trials are set for January 21.
False charges have also been filed against Vasili Beglaryan, Erik Ghazaryan, Davit Alaverdyan, Gurgen Stepanyan, Levon Balayan, Madat Babayan, Garik Martirosyan, and Melikset Pashayan.
