Former Minister of Defense and head of the opposition Armenia parliamentary faction, Seyran Ohanyan, stated at Yerablur Military Pantheon that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must explain the whereabouts of military equipment acquired in the past.
Referring to Pashinyan’s claim that Armenia was sold “rusty, useless weapons” under the discourse of Ararat and historical Armenia, Ohanyan countered: “We have never purchased rusty weapons, nor have we had equipment unsuitable for the battlefield,” he said, according to Sputnik Armenia.
He emphasized that for years, Armenia not only acquired military equipment but also benefited from reduced prices through CSTO agreements and received significant quantities of advanced weaponry from its strategic partner.
“Pashinyan must answer where the weapons and military equipment of the Armenian army went and why he failed to swiftly master the principles of leadership when he claimed to be capable of serving as Commander-in-Chief,” Ohanyan remarked.
The former minister credited Armenia’s military successes to the unity between Armenia and Artsakh, which, according to him, has been eroded under the current government’s inept leadership.
Ohanyan also criticized Pashinyan’s narrative on “Ararat-Aragats” as a false agenda. “There has never been a contradiction between Ararat and Aragats, our history, and our present reality. Our history lays the foundation for achieving new milestones in modern times,” he stated.
Dismissing claims that the Armenian army was solely built with foreign assistance, Ohanyan said: “Today, false theses suggest that others built our army or fought in our place. That’s not true. While our strategic partners and neighbors supported us, the real work on the battlefield was done by Armenians—our soldiers and our people.”
On January 25, Pashinyan stated on Public Television that the discourse surrounding Ararat and Aragats is crucial for military reforms and reiterated that no one would sell weapons to Armenia under the rhetoric of historical Armenia.
