Turkologist says Armenian identity under attack by de facto rulers

De facto rulers in Armenia are dismantling the nation’s foundations, Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan warned in a Facebook post.

He claimed that attacks like the recent one on the church reflect a broader campaign to destroy all Armenian values and resistance hubs, stating, “Everything is being done consciously, with a clear aim at dismantling every existing and potential center of Armenian national resistance.”

Geghamyan emphasized the gravity of the attack on the church, noting it is “the most striking but not the only one.” He predicted that nothing would be spared: “Some will fall sooner, some later, but the end is the same.”

He alleged a long-term plan to replace Armenia with a Turkish-controlled entity: “This is their plan. They are doing it deliberately.” He also criticized passive citizens, sarcastically urging them to focus on earning salaries, engage in empty political discussions, and eventually emigrate with “a small bag to escape Turkish assaults.”

He ended his post with a note on recent warnings by the U.S. and Russia: “A few days ago, the U.S. and Russia both stated at the highest level that the Azerbaijani attack around Syunik is very real.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to clerical criticism following his comment comparing churches to storage sheds during a cabinet session by posting offensive remarks targeting the clergy on Facebook. His wife Anna Hakobyan echoed these sentiments, labeling the clergy as 'the country’s top pedophiles'.
