Archbishop Mikael hospitalized for medical tests

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese, has been transferred to Izmirlian Medical Center, where he is currently undergoing necessary medical examinations.

His legal team confirmed that he is now undergoing tests, according to 1lurer.am .

Earlier reports indicated that Archbishop Mikael’s health had deteriorated, and his defense attorneys had raised concerns about the need for surgery.

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan was sentenced to two years in prison. He faces prosecution under Article 422, Part 2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code for publicly calling for the overthrow of the constitutional order, violation of territorial integrity, rejection of sovereignty, or seizure of power. He has been in custody since June 28.

Archbishop Ajapahyan denies the charges against him.
