MPs paid 1.845 million drams in bonuses apart from salaries

Members of Armenia’s National Assembly received a combined 3.025 million drams in net salary and bonuses in December, according to Kristine Vardanyan, an MP from the Hayastan parliamentary faction, Factor.am reports.

She said the amount covered salaries for both December and January. A lawmaker’s monthly net salary is 590,000 drams. Subtracting two months of salaries from 3.025 million drams indicates that deputies received 1.845 million drams in bonuses.

The National Assembly has 107 deputies, bringing the total bonus payout to 197.5 million drams. This figure does not reflect the full amount of bonuses. For instance, the parliament speaker’s salary is higher, and if bonuses were calculated based on pay grades, Alen Simonyan may have received more. In addition to deputies, National Assembly staff members also received bonuses, though the amounts and criteria remain unknown.

The National Assembly has published the speaker’s relevant orders on bonuses, but individual lists and the total sum have not been disclosed. Ruling Civil Contract party lawmakers have declined to comment on the matter.

Opposition MPs who received seven-figure bonuses say they plan to donate the money to charity, without yet revealing the specific causes.
