EU concerned over situation in Iran
The EU said it is concerned over election fraud allegations and the violence that erupted after the release of results Iran's presidential election.

It is essential that the aspirations of the Iranian people are achieved through peaceful means and that freedom of expression is respected, the ministers said.

EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said she hopes election authorities really look into all the complaints of irregularities.

"I have thorough respect for all the Iranian citizens who have shown their discontent and have demonstrated peacefully," she told reporters in Luxembourg. "I do hope that the security forces will refrain from showing violence."

"We are looking toward Tehran with great concern at the moment," she said.
