Armenians of North Caucasus are losing their roots without studying their native language and history
"According to Russia's official statistics, around 275 000 Armenians live in North Caucasus in 2002, today the figure has risen to half a million people. It's hard to say how many of them actually know Armenian," Chief Editor of Yerkramas Russian Armenians' newspaper Tigran Tavadyan said.
According to him, Armenian Diaspora has many problems linked with preservation of national identity, language, culture and traditions. "Armenian communities are trying their best to increase patriotism, especially among the youth. Cultural and cognitive events are being conducted, a chance for studying Armenian history is given," Tavadyan emphasized.
When questioned by PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, if Armenians are threatened by assimilation, Tavadyan answered in the affirmative adding that the only thing that could save Armenians from assimilation - is a constant work with people and studying of native language and history.
