The peace agreement with Azerbaijan, in its current form, is a document that would “cripple Armenia,” Bright Armenia prime ministerial candidate Edmon Marukyan said during the election campaign.
“The peace agreement is a document aimed at crippling Armenia. We oppose it. It must be changed, and it will be changed,” Marukyan was quoted as saying by Panorama.am.
He also referred to the previous day’s debate, recalling comments by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who said the parties had worked together on the text of the agreement.
“Minister Mirzoyan is surprised that we will not sign this text and that we want to hold accountable those who signed it. The reason is simple: the text we worked on no longer exists. I can assure you that what remains are the articles proposed by Azerbaijan, which the authorities accepted and agreed to,” Marukyan said.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be observed as a day of silence, while parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 7.
On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party announced its withdrawal from the election. Following the request, the Central Electoral Commission revoked the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, ballot paper No. 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
