Archbishop Mikael casts ballot in election

Shirak Diocese leader Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, who is under house arrest, took part in Armenia’s parliamentary elections.

“For the Republic of Armenia,” the archbishop said as he placed his ballot into the ballot box, according to Sputnik Armenia.

As he left the polling station, he also blessed citizens who approached him.

An appeal seeking a change to the preventive measure imposed on the archbishop will be reviewed by the Court of Appeal after the elections.

On June 7, parliamentary elections are being held in Armenia, with 18 political forces taking part — 16 parties and two alliances. A total of 2,485,851 citizens are eligible to vote.
