Armenia's Constitutional Court must complete its examination of the consolidated case challenging the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections by July 4, Court Chairman Arman Dilanyan said, explaining that this is why proceedings are being conducted under an intensive schedule.
Dilanyan told reporters that classified documents would be examined during the June 30 hearing, Panorama.am reported.
"Only this part of the proceedings, devoted to examining the classified documents, will be held behind closed doors. Only the parties to the case and the judges will participate," he said.
Responding to remarks that applicants had accused the court of making political assessments following questions raised by Constitutional Court Judge Seda Safaryan, Dilanyan said: "As I stated during the hearing, under the Law on the Constitutional Court, a judge has both the authority and the duty to clarify the circumstances of the case. This means that the judge takes a more active role in the proceedings."
On June 26, the Constitutional Court began hearing the consolidated case based on applications filed by seven political forces challenging the results of the June 7 regular parliamentary elections. The proceedings are ongoing.
