Strong Armenia alliance leader Samvel Karapetyan urged the public not to take seriously statements by Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) temporary manager Romanos Petrosyan that the company would be nationalized in July.
"Don't take it seriously. They have already brought ENA to its knees. All the company's indicators are catastrophic. They would now be very happy if they had never taken those steps," Karapetyan said before a court hearing, according to Aysor.am .
Asked about a possible change of power, Karapetyan said he had set a timeline for that process.
"You will all see," he said.
On June 29, ENA temporary manager Romanos Petrosyan said the government would decide in mid-July to declare Electric Networks of Armenia a project of overriding public interest, after which the company's market value would be assessed and compensation determined.
On May 8, it became known that the government had offered ENA owner Samvel Karapetyan's family $380,000 for the company. Karapetyan rejected the proposed amount as unacceptable, and negotiations did not take place.
On July 3, 2025, Armenia's National Assembly approved in the second and final reading amendments to the laws "On the Public Services Regulatory Authority" and "On Energy" by a vote of 65 in favor, 27 against and no abstentions. The legislative package is widely referred to as the ENA nationalization bill.
Karapetyan acquired the company in 2016 at the request of the previous government and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its modernization.
