Pashinyan rules out abandoning EU course

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ruled out a repeat of the 2013 scenario, when Armenia abandoned its Association Agreement with the European Union and instead opted to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He made the remarks during a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Pashinyan, such a development is impossible today because the Armenian people have clearly supported the government's foreign policy course, according to Factor.am .

"At the same time, we have never sought, do not seek and will not seek to create a crisis in Armenia's relations with Russia. We act in accordance with the interests of our country and, naturally, do not disregard the interests of any of our international partners. However, we cannot place the interests of any other partner above those of the Republic of Armenia, and that is a logical approach for any country," the prime minister said.

Pashinyan also answered a question about his phone conversation the previous day with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, including whether they discussed restrictions affecting exports from Armenia to Russia and whose initiative the call had been.

"As for yesterday's telephone conversation with the head of the Russian government, it took place at my initiative. The range of issues discussed has been reflected in the official statement. We agreed to hold more detailed discussions in the near future," Pashinyan said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin held a telephone conversation during which they discussed issues on the Armenia-Russia cooperation agenda, including trade and economic ties, scientific and technological cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian relations, according to the Armenian prime minister's press service. The Russian government's statement said the call took place at the initiative of the Armenian side.
