PPA rep says Armenia faces delegitimization

Arman Abovyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Prosperous Armenia party, has described the events surrounding party leader Gagik Tsarukyan and his detention as "abnormal."

Speaking outside the Court of General Jurisdiction of the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts, where the hearing on Tsarukyan's pretrial measure was taking place, Abovyan said that, in his view, the country is undergoing "a process of delegitimization," according to Sputnik Armenia.

"Everything will be fine. I have no doubt that this pro-Azerbaijani, pro-Turkish, anti-Armenian nightmare will come to an end. I hope the court will uphold the rule of law," Abovyan said.

Commenting on the criminal proceedings launched by the Investigative Committee over the alleged illegal hunting of wild animals or birds, under which animals kept at Tsarukyan's residence were sedated and transferred to the Yerevan Zoo, the Prosperous Armenia representative described the case as "absurd" and argued that "the entire legal process has been reduced to a very low level."

On the morning of July 6, it emerged that masked special forces officers had entered Tsarukyan's residence. Investigative actions were later carried out at other properties linked to Tsarukyan, as well as at the homes of directors of companies belonging to the Multi Group holding. According to the Investigative Committee, the searches at Tsarukyan's residence were conducted as part of a money laundering investigation.

A separate criminal case was also opened over the alleged illegal hunting of wild animals or birds. As part of that investigation, authorities seized 190 taxidermied animals and birds, along with three lions and one tiger, from Tsarukyan's residence. They were recognized as material evidence, and the live animals were transferred to the Yerevan Zoo.
