Two Civil Contract politicians resign

Tavros Sapeyan, Mayor of the Talin community and a member of the Civil Contract party, and Vagharshak Hakobyan, a lawmaker from the National Assembly's Civil Contract faction, have announced that they are resigning their parliamentary mandates.

In a Facebook post, Sapeyan said he would continue serving as the head of the Talin community.

"I made this decision guided by the trust of my fellow residents, the will they have expressed, and my conviction that today I can be most useful here, with you, by your side, in the daily work of developing our community. For me, the trust and opinion of the people have always been, and remain, the greatest responsibility.

This decision has been carefully considered and is based on one simple conviction: today my greatest mission and responsibility are here, in Talin," he wrote.

Vagharshak Hakobyan, a member of the National Assembly's Civil Contract faction, announced that he will continue his career in the private sector. He said the decision had been coordinated with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Civil Contract party's governing board.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the leader of my political team, Nikol Pashinyan, who, as a result of the 2018 revolution, restored to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia their fundamental right to elect and be elected. During these years, Armenia has become a more democratic, more sovereign, more independent and, most importantly, more peaceful state. I can proudly say that the National Assembly of Armenia and the ruling Civil Contract faction, of which I had the honor to be a member, have played an important role on that path.

At the same time, I would like to inform you that this decision was made in coordination with the Prime Minister and the governing board of the Civil Contract party. I remain a full member of the party and will continue active party work, supporting my political team with my full potential," he wrote.

The Constitutional Court rejected the lawsuit filed by seven political forces. As a result, the final election results confirm that the following parties will hold seats in parliament: Civil Contract with 64 mandates, Strong Armenia with 29 mandates, and Hayastan with 12 mandates.
