Alik Aleksanyan, a member of the Strong Armenia alliance, has been held in custody for almost two months. During that period, investigators have not conducted any investigative action with his participation, his lawyer Liana Gasparyan said, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Gasparyan said Aleksanyan has not been banned from receiving visitors. Nevertheless, he has not seen his son for close to two months.

The politician’s two-month detention term expires on August 3. It remains unclear whether the investigative body will ask for his custody to be extended.

Narek Karapetyan, an elected lawmaker from the Strong Armenia faction who has also been implicated in Aleksanyan’s case, previously said children are among those most affected when politicians are detained.

He recalled the arrest of lawyer Ruben Mkhitaryan last autumn, saying Mkhitaryan’s son did not know where his father was and missed him deeply. Aleksanyan later visited the boy and brought him a toy on his father’s behalf.

“Today, Alik’s son Ben does not know where his father is. He has been told his father is in Gyumri and asks when he will return. Behind every detention are children waiting, women and many personal stories. To those compatriots of ours who, influenced by government propaganda, sometimes fail to understand what is happening in Armenia: open your eyes... open your eyes...” Karapetyan wrote.

Alik Aleksanyan has been charged with large-scale money laundering and providing electoral bribes. According to the Investigative Committee, Aleksanyan, as founder and executive director of the Mer Dzevov public organization, received approximately $4.4 million and 230,000 euros from the Tashir Foundation between October 2025 and March 2026 in the form of gifts and loans.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had previously launched a public criminal prosecution against Narek Karapetyan in connection with Aleksanyan’s case.
