Armenia has superficial knowledge of present-day Turkish reality
"Turkish media work in conjunction with Turkish government," Turkish studies specialist Ruben Melkonyan, expert of Noravank scientific-research foundation, told today a seminar on "Armenian-Turkish relations: present and past". Turkish media, according to him, try to represent Armenian society from weaker positions, stressing that it is primarily concerned about everyday problems rather than Armenian Genocide. In that way, Turkey tries to act as a "kind host", making Armenia a "beggar".

Melkonyan brought the example of Turkey's apology campaign, when 30 Turks signed below the petition expressing their apology for the 1915 tragedy. "Some time later, campaign organizers announced that 'Turkish President and Premier should pray for that, as due to their campaign, Armenia and foreign media mitigated their positions on Armenian Genocide," the expert said, stressing that Turkey in that way showed its real intentions.

Melkonyan also noted that Armenian society has superficial knowledge of Turkey.
