UN General Assembly prepares for its September 15 regular session
UN General Assembly's 64th session opens on September 15 in New York. Annual General meetings witnessing speeches by state and government leaders will last from 23 till 30 September, 2009.

64th session which will last till mid-September 2010 will focus on the organization of several big events, UN press service reports. On September 20, Secretary General will convene a World Summit on Climate Change. That will be followed by high level meeting devoted to the 60th anniversary of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

The two issues included in Assembly's agenda also focus on millennium development goals (also including preparation work for Assembly's 2010 high level meeting) and world financial-economic crisis and its impact on development, climate change, disarmament, UN reform (including reforms in Security Council) and activization of General Assembly's work.

64th session will be presided over by Ali Abdul Salaam Treki (Libya).
