Armenia can export potatoes in case of opening border with Turkey
If Armenia opens border with Turkey, it can export potatoes there, NA parliamentarian Misha Stepanyan told journalists. Over 100 thousand tons of potato was not realized in 2008, he said, adding that in case of opening border that quality will decrease. "With the borders close, Armenia has to export products via Georgia which conducts a tough customs policy. There is a border with Iran, hence Armenian Government and Agriculture Ministry are required to search for more effective ways for realizing agricultural products," MP added.
At that he stressed the importance of cultivating crops that may have high demand (such as potato). He also said that Agriculture Ministry conducted relevant activities in that direction. Some companies, according to MP, are ready to acquire about 70-80% of potato crops. It is also planned to export some agricultural products.
