SCR continues railway reconstruction on Armenian territory
Considering increased freight circulation and carrying capacity of Hrazdan-Zod railway station, South Caucasian Railways CJSC made decision to reconstruct Areg station, the company's press service reports.

By December 2009, it is planned to bring station in compliance with security and exploitation criteria. "In that connection, Areg station will be supplied with relevant technological equipment, and its contact network will be adjusted to established standards," says the company's release.

In 2009, South Caucasian Railways declared a year of stations. Within program frameworks, Ayrum, Masis, Armavir, Shorzha, Hrazdan, Sanahin, Vanadzor, Gyumri and Yerevan stations underwent thorough repairs.

Station is situated at a distance of 159 km. from Hrazdan-Zod section (driving: Shorzha-Vardenis).

South Caucasian Railways CJSCis a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways CJSC. Under a concessionary agreement, Armenian Railways CJSC was handed over to SCR CJSC's concessionary management. Concessionary agreement was signed for the term of 30 years, with possible extension of additional 10 years.
