Upper Lars check-point opening will allow Armenia to restore fright transportation volumes
Upper Lars-Kazbegi check-point opening will allow to restore fright transportation volumes, Armenian Premier Tigran Sargsyan said.

"Opening of Upper Lars will create more favourable working conditions for our business entities," the Premier said. According to him, Armenia is closely following Russia-Georgia negotiation process, noting the positive dynamics.

As Tigran Sargsyan reported, at December 24 meeting with South Caucasian Railways Director General Shevket Shaydullin, company's activity results were summed up. SCR Director General noted that in crisis circumstances, railway fright transfer volumes grew by 15% compared with 2008 results, which is explained by Upper Lars being closed. "This is a good result, considering 2009's export and import slump in product turnover," he stressed.

In this connection, Tigran Sargsyan noted that railway cargo transportation increase in 2009 was caused by the growth in volumes of mining industry raw material.
