ARMENIA NOT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF THE COUNTRIES TO WHICH JECKSON-VENIK AMENDMENT APPLIES
The consideration of the issue on the repeal of Jeckson-Venik amendment toward Armenia and other seven CIS countries will start today on the initiative of the administration. The amendment passed in 1974 provides for sanctions (restricts trade) against the countries where, in official Washington's opinion, human rights are infringed. Since the USSR dissolution, the sanctions have been applied to the CIS countries. Last year Kirgizstan and Georgia were not included in the list of the countries to which the amendment was applied.
