President of Uruguay Jose Mujica attended an Armenian Genocide memorial event held in Montevideo on April 24.

A khachkar (cross-stone) was placed in Armenia square and was consecrated by primate of the Uruguayan Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Hakob Ghlnjian. Minister of Education and Science, Dr. Ricardo Ehrlich and Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism Lillian Keshishian delivered speeches.

The khachkar was inaugurated on the initiative of AGBU Montevideo, Social Democratic Hunchakian Party and Armenian National Center, RA MFA press service reported.
