Jurmala to host 52nd meeting of Railway Transport Cooperation Council

The 52nd meeting of the Railway Transport Cooperation Council will kick off in Jurmala (Latvia) on May 13.

Head of the Transportation Department of the South Caucasus Railways CJSC Anatoly Danchenko will participate in the meeting, the SCR said.

Chairman of the Council, President of Russian Railways OJCS Vladimir Yakunin and Chairman of the Board of Latvijas dzelzcels SJSC Ugis Magonis will open the meeting, the press service of RailVneshTrans company told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. The Latvian Prime Minister will be also attending the opening ceremony.

Three agreements on cooperation between the Latvian and Russian railways are expected to be signed during the meeting. They will refer to organization of railway transportation, usage of software support and exploitation of locomotives during joint handling of trains.

“We have been entrusted with organization of this important meeting, which will bring together heads of railways to agree on most important issues of cooperation that have an impact on the railway transport development. This meeting is important not only for railways, but for the state, as a whole,” Ugis Magonis said.

The Council unites 17 railway administrations of the CIS and Baltic states, as well as Georgia, Bulgaria and Finland. It aims to secure cooperation of railways on technical, economic, financial and juridical issues. It ensures coordination of railway transport operations, development of agreed principles for further cooperation and implementation of transportation at the governmental level. The Council’s meetings are held twice a year in a member country. The previous meeting was held in Uzbekistan in October 2009.
