Turkey’s policy towards Armenia depends on internal political situation in the country, rather than external factors, an expert at Sabanci University and Assistant Director of TESEV Foreign Policy Program Aybars Gorgulu stated.
As he told in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, with the change of leadership in Turkey’s Republican People's Party, the latter’s rating will equal that of ruling AKP. “With resignation of Deniz Baykal and Kemal Kılıcdaroglu’s coming into office, the situation in parliament could change in favour of the other party. I believe AKP won’t be able to win majority at next national elections.” Aybars Gorgulu did not preclude the possibility for Recep Tayyip Erdogan to become Turkish President in future.
The expert refuted Azeri media –spread rumours on Kılıcdaroglu’s mother being an ethnic Armenian. “The information is untrue. The new RPP leader is Alevite who follows Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s precepts,” Aybars Gorgulu noted.
