Development of mini hydro power plants is important for Armenia’s energy independence

Armenian Minister of Energy Armen Movsisyan said that the development of mini hydro power plants is of great importance to increase Armenia’s energy independence and to solve social issues.

“The Ministry of Energy has always attached importance to resumed energy. The country’s opportunities have been studied. Thus, it was decided to focus on the policy of development of mini hydro power plants in the country. The government developed a program, under which favorable legal and economic conditions are created to attract investments to the field,” Movsisyan said during the fourth conference of the Union of Mini Hydro Power Plants.

According to the Minister, there are over 70 mini hydro power plants, which secure around 4% of the entire electric power produced in the country that is a significant index.

Movsisyan also noted that mini hydro power plants face many problems and the Union regularly informs the Ministry about them, which, in its turn, tries to solve them. Besides, the issues of legal regulation have been included in the governmental program of development and will be solved in the near future.
