Project development on reconstruction of Saint Gevorg of Mughni Armenian church in Tbilisi will start on June 15, with the Georgian government allocating $27,000 for the reconstruction.

Representatives of the Armenian Ministry of Culture will participate in discussions on the issue.

The medieval church collapsed early in the morning of November 19, 2009, damaging the cars in the churchyard. Presently, the unfortified construction is dangerous for families living near the church.

“The removal of obstructions has been finished in winter, what was expected to be followed by reconstruction works in spring. However, they have not started yet. We asked to at least fortify the construction,” resident of Tbilisi Georgy Poghosian, whose house is located near the church, told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Established in 1356, the Church it was entirely rebuilt through private funds of three famous Armenians of Tbilisi in 1751. During the Soviet era, the church served as a museum of folk art. But the museum was closed in 1980.
