Lawyer of Freedom of Information Center Karen Mezhlumyan said that those companies, which offer public services, should provide information within five days from an inquiry date, if it is not a commercial or state secret.

If the requested information requires huge efforts, it can be provided within 30 days with preliminary notification, Mezhlumyan told a press conference on June 17.

"From 2007 to 2010, 20 cases were completed with respect to non-provision of information by various officials. In one of them, a journalist's request for information was refused," said head of Freedom of Information Center NGO Shushan Doydoyan. She added that claims were submitted against Orinats Yerkir party, the Armenian National Congress, Hrazdan Mayor's Office, as well as a range of state non-commercial and other organizations.

According to Mezhlumyan, the Armenian legislation envisages AMD 50000 administrative punishment for refusing to provide information.
