Chief of the general staff of Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin arrived in Armenia today. According to the information provided by "Arka" agency, meetings with President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, Catholicos of all Armenians Garegin II, Defense Minister Serge Sargsian are planned in the course of the visit. Upon his arrival at "Zvartnots" airport in Yerevan Kvashnin stated discussion of the prospects of Armenian-Russian cooperation in military sphere would be the main topic of negotiations. Speaking about U.S. antiterrorist operations in Afghanistan, Kvashnin noted Russia had thought of the readiness of Armenia to give an air corridor to U.S. as normal. He stressed that 102-nd Russian base situated on the territory of Armenia would not be engaged in antiterrorist operations.
October 3, within the framework of the visit members of the delegation headed by him will lay a wreath to the memorial of Armenian genocide victims. Anatoly Kvashnin also intends to visit 102-nd Russian military base dislocated in Gumri.
