Aziz Tamoyan: 60 thousand Yezids stand ready to support Armenia

National Union of Yezidis of the World condemns Azerbaijan’s subversive act against the Nagorno Karabakh.

“We were indignant to know about the incident. Azerbaijan’s actions come as continuation of the Genocide perpetrated by Turks early last century. The Yezidis are calling on the international community to demand that the diversion organizers be punished,” chairman of the Union Aziz Tamoyan told reporters on June 22.

“Karabakh was and remains an Armenian land, which never belonged to Azerbaijan,” he stated.

“Ilham Aliyev’s provocation which immediately followed the St. Petersburg meeting is an offence to the Russian leadership. The fact is that Aliyev junior initiates such steps not proceeding from the popular interests but to keep his post,” he said.

“During the Arstakh war, the Armenian Yezidis were supporting the Armenian nation. We are not afraid of war and in case of necessity we will again back our Armenian brothers,” Tamoyan said.

As to Armenian authorities’ attitude to Yezidi community, he emphasized that contrary to some Muslim countries, no attempts of assimilation are made in Armenia.

“Our 60-thousand community has a newspaper, radio program and literature published in our language,” he said.
