SCR carries on preparatory works for further exploitation of border-crossing with Turkey

President of Russian Railways OJSC Vladimir Yakunin said that South Caucasus Railways (SCR) CJSC is carrying on preparatory works for further exploitation of a border-crossing with Turkey.

“Currently, the issue is not resolved, but the company will be developing the railway component between the countries, what is agreed with the Armenian government,” Yakunin told journalists in Yerevan.

He added that international relations are not within the companies’ competence. “We take into consideration that sooner or later the political problems will be settled, while the Armenian leadership, as far as I know, attaches importance to the issue within the context of railway communication. For our part, we implement works in the framework of the International Union of Railways and bilateral relations with our colleagues,” Yakunin emphasized.

He added that Russian Railways OJSC is not negotiating purchase of the Georgian railways.
