Ara Abrahamyan: it is necessary to establish council to deal with Armenian Genocide recognition

The Armenian National Academy of Sciences (NAS) hosted an international conference, entitled: “100th anniversary of Meds Yeghern - Armenian Genocide, Boundary for Justice Establishment.”

This is the first big event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. “There is not an indifferent Armenian towards this issue worldwide,” said Armenian Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan.

For his part, President of the RA NAS Radik Martirosyan said that there were numerous similar events over 50 years, which have played a significant role. “This is proved by the great number of states and international structures, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide,” noted Martirosyan.

Meanwhile, President of the World Armenian Congress and Union of Armenians of Russia Ara Abrahamyan offered to apply to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to establish a state commission and council to deal with the Armenian Genocide recognition. In its turn, the council will be form expert and professional task groups to develop a package of required documents and procedure for submitting claims to international judicial instances.

Participants of the conference stressed that it is important to be unified in the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition, specifically they pointed to the Diaspora’s role, saying that it should act in compliance with the ideology and strategy of the Armenian state.
