The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs has sent an inquiry to the regional administrations of Kars and Igdir provinces to find out how long it will take to complete preparatory works in case of opening of the Armenian-Turkish border. Governor of Kars province Ahmet Kara made a statement on the written inquiry, TURKISHNY news agency reported.

Specifically, the Governor said in his statement: "There is an agreement signed in Zurich between the Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers. After its ratification by the two countries' parliaments, the agreement will be mandatory. However, the two countries' parliaments have not ratified the Protocols yet, and it is not clear when it will happen.

From the other side, a written inquiry has been sent to the regional administrations of Kars and Igdir on how long it will take to open the border, if Armenia and Turkey decide to do so."

He added that in case of opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, all the works will be completed within a month. According to him, currently the works are suspended at the Eastern border.

"However, if Armenia and Turkey reach an agreement and open the border, the Eastern border will be ready in a month," he said.

The Governor of Kars added that the railway will also be ready for exploitation, if the border is opened.
