Turkey views the possibility to open the border with Armenia as a perspective, but this doesn’t mean that the border will open this or next year, Caucasus Institute Director said.

“Turkey understands that the border can’t be closed eternally and the process aimed at its opening is irreversible,” Alexander Iskandaryan said when commenting on the inquiry of Turkish Interior Ministry to Kars governor.

He did not rule out that the Armenian-Turkish border may be opened even without ratification of Protocols on normalization of relations.

“Anyway, borders may open in different regimes: once a month, only for cargo transportation or only for travelers,” Iskandaryan said. “Turkey is on the threshold of parliamentary election and the leadership will criticize the process with Armenia to gain some political dividends. Anyway, it will have to show the world that the dialogue is still alive.”
