French-Armenian filmmaker Serge Avedikian, the winner of the Best Short Film prize at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival for his Chienne D'histoire (Barking Island), said that presenting his work to the Festival, he decided that it will either win or will be disregarded.

“The other films were very powerful, basically referring to poverty and cruelty,” Avedikian told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, adding that his film differed from the others, as it was based on historical facts.

“It is a wild but powerful film from the aesthetic point of view,” Avedikian said.

Besides, he noted that being the Cannes Festival jury president, Atom Egoyan either had to accept the other jury members’ opinion or protect Barking Island with all his strength, if he liked the film indeed.

“However, later Egoyan said that the jury was unanimous,” Avedikian said.
