NGOs of Gyumri are against establishment of foreign language schools in Armenia

On August 4, Gyumri hosted a discussion dedicated to introduction of amendments to the RA Laws on Language and Education. The event was organized at the initiative of Shirak Center NGO and We Are against Establishment of Foreign Language Schools initiative group. It brought together representatives of various NGOs.

As a result of the discussion, participants published an open letter in response to Dilijan international school initiators’ open letter addressed to the RA Public Council.

Specifically, NGOs expressed concerns over a negative impact of international-class foreign language schools on Armenia’s secondary education system, which is still in process of formation.

Representatives of the public sector of Gyumri are against introduction of amendments to the RA Laws on Language and Education, and they urged the RA government and parliament to reject them. “Instead of it, we believe that it is necessary to launch enlarged discussions with respect to problems of universal education in Armenian language,” the letter reads.
