RA Ministry of Agriculture expects growth in 2010

Armenian Minister of Agriculture Gerasim Alaverdyan said that growth will be recorded in Armenia's agriculture by the end of this year to reach the level of 2009.

“The drop in agriculture is basically reasoned by decrease in fruit and vegetable harvest,” Alaverdyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

According to him, the situation will improve in September-October and certain growth will be recorded specifically in livestock products.

Besides, Alaverdyan said that а decrease was recorded in vegetable and fruit harvest, totaling 60,000-70,000t against 161,000t in 2009. Meanwhile, growth was recorded in stock farm (egg production grew by 30%).

According to updated statistical data, 23% decrease was registered in Armenia’s agriculture in January-July 2010. The total volume of produced agricultural products amounted to AMD 555.7bln in January-December 2009 that is 0.1% lower compared with the same period in 2008.
