Armenian community of Dagestan celebrates St. Gregory Day

The Armenian community of Derbend, Dagestan, marks annually St. Gregory Day in commemoration of the first bishop of Aghvank, who was presumably martyred in the territory of Nyugdi settlement of Derbend region, where a temple was erected in 337 AD.

This year the ceremony was held by Reverend Father Arsen Budaghyan.

“We are thankful for all generations, who preserved this sacred place,” said Yuri Mosesov, deputy head of the Armenian community of Dagestan.

Special awards of the Union of Armenians of Russia were given to public figures and scientists who assisted reconstruction of the temple, Yerkramas reported.
