Georgian policemen detained a citizen of Armenia for “illegal entry into the country” through Russian frontier. As Georgian frontier police reported, Hamlet Adamyan was detained as a result of special operation conducted by Georgian police in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region.

As the investigation clarified, on October 22, Adamyan entered Georgia from Russian territory. Georgia does note have an official check points on the land frontier with Russia, so the entry from Russian territory is considered illegal. In 2007, Russia closed the border with Georgia, establishing a check point on the border with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Currently, Adamyan is threatened with 5 years of prison or major penalty, Georgia Online reported.

Armenian Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the situation.
