Michael Emerson: Karabakh conflict becomes increasingly reminiscent of situation in Kashmir and Cyprus

Karabakh conflict becomes increasingly reminiscent of situation in Kashmir and Cyprus, which has remained unresolved for decades, said Michael Emerson, an expert at the Сenter for European Policy Study.

“Karabakh conflict seems stagnant to me, nor did I learn of any reliable news on the possibility to reach agreement on political status of the region,” the expert noted.

Emerson characterized the conclusion of Protocol on Russian military base deployment as the extension of status quo. “For that, Baku has only itself to thank. Elements of military rhetoric in Baku’s political circles induced Yerevan to resort to Russia’s military guarantees,” 1news.az cited the expert as saying.
