8th Shakespeare Festival in Armenia may become the last one

Shakespeare Festival faces the threat of closing because of grave financial problems.

As the head of Armenian Theater Workers Union, Hakob Ghazanchyan told a news conference, Yerevan Mayor’s Office ceased festival financing this year.

“Unless the situation changes, this year’s Shakespeare Festival may become the last one,” he stressed.

Despite difficulties cited, famous film and theater director Peter Brook will visit Yerevan to attend the festival, which will kick off on September 15 in Gabriel Sundukyan Academic Theater with Macbeth performance.
