Unfavorable climatic conditions to result in 8-9% drop in agriculture sector

In 2011, Armenian Ministry of Agriculture plans to introduce the Law on Agriculture Development, envisaging implementation of mechanisms to regulate the area under crops.

“The initiative aims at prevention of drastic fluctuations in prices for agriculture products,” the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Samvel Avetisyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

The Ministry official cited unfavorable climatic conditions as the reason behind serious situation in Armenian agriculture.

A 24% slump in agriculture sector was reported in the first half-year of 2010. Experts forecast a slight improvement by the year-end to result in 8-9% drop.
