Armenian delegation participates in IAEA General Conference

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano said in his opening remarks at the IAEA General Conference that around 60 countries consider atomic energy usage.

"We expect some 10-25 countries to put into operation their first nuclear power plants by 2030," he said.

The 54th Annual Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference kicked off on September 20 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, where high-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA Member States consider a range of issues., RIA Novosti reported.

As a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter was told in the RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Armenian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan includes Chief Engineer of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and Chairman of the State Committee on Regulation of Nuclear Security Ashot Martirosyan.

Cancer in Developing Countries: Facing the Challenge scientific forum will be convened on September 21-22, bringing together international specialists in radiation therapy.

Armenia plans to construct a new unit of the Nuclear Power Plant with 1000MW capacity. According to the RA Ministry of Energy, the project may cost about $5bln. Construction works are scheduled to be started in 2011.
