There are 20 children born with HIV infection in Armenia

Specialist of gender issues of Real World - Real People NGO Christine Movsisyan said that awareness of HIV and methods of its treatment helps HIV-infected women to give birth to healthy children.

In case of treatment with antiretroviral medicines, 98% of HIV-infected women give birth to healthy children, Movsisyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

"However, one should not blame women who are unaware of similar illnesses and do not undergo a relevant treatment," said Movsisyan, adding that there are 20 children born with HIV infection in Armenia.

"Numerous studies allow stating that HIV is no longer a fatal illness, but its treatment is expensive and unaffordable for many people," said Vice President of Real World - Real People NGO Zhenya Mailyan, adding that the Global Fund assists Armenian women in this matter.

Since 1988, 900 HIV-infected people have been registered in Armenia, including 250 women.
