On September 24, Yerevan hosted a conference on joint Armenian-Japanese "Project for Seismic Risk Assessment and Risk Management Planning in the Republic of Armenia" envisaging conduction of soil stability and earthquake resistance research in the capital and regions of Armenia.
Upon completion of the 2-year project which was launched on September 5, 2010, a seismic risk management plan will be developed and Armenia will be provided with essential equipment by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The $2.5 project is financed by Japan. After implementation of the first stage in May 2011, three Armenian rescuers will have an opportunity to be trained in Japan.
