Richard Giragosian: Moscow can become overly self-assured in its position on South Caucasus

Russia became more wary in its policy at South Caucasus, attempting to bring it into concordance with the interests of the West, the director of Armenian Center for National and Strategic Studies (ACNIS), Richard Giragosian stated.

As he pointed out at round table on New Trends in Russian Policy in the Caucasus: Threats and Opportunities for the Region, a security vacuum was formed in South Caucasus.

“The retreatist policy of U.S. triggers Moscow into displaying more flexibility. Such a policy may make Moscow overly self-assured and aggressive in its regional position,” the expert concluded.
